LONDON

This Easter Holidays I went to London for about four days. The city really impressed me. Due to, I'm gonna tell you about my experience.

Accommodation

As for the hotel, we stayed in Apex City of London Hotel. The rooms were clean and big and the hotel was just next to the Tower of London, in te City.

First Day

We arrived at 12:00 P.M, so after having lunch, we only had the afternoon. That they we just wandered around the Tower of London, the Tower Bridge, and we walked next to the Thames up to the Globe, which was closed because of works. We had dinner in a restaurant nearby and we crossed the river again. We passed in front of St Paul's Cathedral and we continued our way to the hotel.

Second Day

We woke up and had breakfast. Then, we too the underground to go to Greenwhich, to see the Cutty Sark, a famous ship, and then we decided to took a boat across the Thames. Up to Westminster Abbey, we went down to see it. After that, we made our way to Buckinham Palace and the parks that surround it. We had lunch in a pub, and next, we went to the London Eye. We were really tired and we rested a few hours in the hotel and we had dinner near Covent Garden. Then we went to see a musical at the Lyceum, specifically, The Lion King, which I enjoyed very much.

Third Day

On the third day we were there, we went to Candem Town, it's a huge market and it's worth to see, but I reccomend going there early because if not, there are loads of tourists and it might be a little oppressive. When we had seen it, we took the tube again to Covent Garden, another place that I truly reccomend, since it's full of life. We also visited Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery. In the afternoon, we went to Piccadilly Circus, and we basically wandered through the streets until dinner time. Therefore it was our last day there, we ate in a pretty good place in Covent Garden.

Fourth Day

We didn't do anything that day. Our flight departed early, so we only took a taxi to the airport.

It was a good weekend, despite the rain!

ROME

The capital of Italy is the fourth most visited city in Europe. It's a city full of history, art and also shops, markets and parks.

Places to visit

The Colosseum
The Colosseum is the largest amphitheatre ever built, and it's in the centre of Rome. It's the major tourist attraction in Rome with thousands of tourists each year.

The Vatican
The Vatican is definetly a must-see. There you can see St Peter's Basilica, la Pieta, the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Museums...

Roman Forum
The ruins there are not to be missed. The Roman Forum offers incredible sights. It's a wonderful historical area.

Pantheon
This is a beautiful building, with quite a lot to see, with architectural details. There are beautiful altars and niches to see. It's definetly a must-see.

Piazza Navona
This is another of the beautiful spots in Rome. It's full of life and entertainment.

Pompeii
This is a good idea for a day trip outside Rome. It's about 200km far and it's near Naples.

Trevi Fountain
It's a beautiful fountain in the centre of the city. It's usually very crowded because a lot of people want to make a wish by throwing a coin into the fountain.

Trastevere
Trastevere is a nieghbourhood full of alleyways, lovely restaurants and cafes and a lot of churches. It's a great place to wander.

Food

The food in italy is, for my taste, really good. Apart from pasta they also have kind of vegetables.

Weather

The weather in Rome is mostly hot, so if you go there in summer, you had better take sunglasses, sun-cream and keep hydrated.

BARCELONA

Hey there! As you know, I'm from Barcelona, and I have to say it, it's such a beautiful city. That's why I've decided to start with it.

Just a tip before starting:
  • Barcelona is a big city in Spain, to be more precise in Catalonia. Catalonia is a nation full of culture, since that, I also recommend you to go to it's other cities (Girona and some little villages), visit cellars, or (if you can) visualize the "castellers" (human towers), among others.

Places to visit

Obviously, one of the must-sees of Barcelona is all i'ts modernist architecture, most of it, by Antoni Gaudí.

La Sagrada Família

La Sagrada Família is a huge basilica in the centre of the city. It's unfinished, there aren't most of the towers and the Golry Façade is still under construction, but the inside is completly finished.
I have to say that I'm not a big fan of churches, however, this one is different. There's a lot of natural symbolism, and it seems like a forest. Depending of the moment of the day, the light is of different colours.
Moreover, if you're interested, there's a mass every two months (but I don't know the dates, sorry :'( ).

La Casa Batlló

That's another building designed by Gaudí. It's one of the most beautiful modernist houses. The roof symbolises the Saint Gorge's dragon. And it also takes inspiration from nature. It's really recommendable.

La Pedrera

Also known as Casa Milà, it's another of the must-sees in Barcelona. It's bigger than Casa Batlló. Even though it's not as beutiful as the previously mentioned, it has a great terrace with a lot of chimneys that ressemble some kind of soldiers.

Barri Gòtic-Gothic Quarter

It's basically the centre of the city. It's all full of gothic architecture, shops and picturesque streets. There you can visit the Cathedral of the city and Santa Maria del Mar.

Camp Nou

If you like football (scoccer), then this is your place. You can visit Barça's stadium. In the sightseeing tour they show you the grandstand, the trophies, the changing rooms...

Beach

Barcelona's beach is called La Barceloneta, but in my opinion is so big an there's too much people. So, if you are ready to drive, I suggest you going to Cap de Creus (it's in the north-east). There are a lot of little and lovely villages with really good beaches. (The first photo is La Barceloneta and the second one El Port de la Selva).

Food

As for the food, it's mostly mediterranian. One piece of advice, here we cook with olive oil, so depening of the country you're from, the flavour might be a little strong. But, by the way it's so good and tasty!

Accomodation

Due to I'm from Barcelona I don't really go to the hotels here but the most famous here are Hotel Ars and Hotel Vela. They are near the sea, and you can see the whole city from there. They are quite expensive, though. But don't worry! Most of the hotels here are good. (we are very clean ;-) ).

Welcome!

Hello, this is my new blog. My name's Maria, and I'm gonna talk you about my voyages and places where I'd really like to go. I'm from Barcelona and until now I've just travelled around Europe, (France, England, Ireland, Italy, Croatia...) but one of my dreams is visiting as much countries as I can through all my life.
Well, let's start travelling!
